David J. Katzelnick's
major clinical and research interests are in mood and anxiety disorders,
psychopharmacology, diagnosis of mental disorders in primary care
and medication education. He has lectured extensively on mood and
anxiety disorders and ways to improve treatment of mental disorders
in real world settings. He has been principal investigator for
a number of retrospective and prospective randomized trials of treatment
of mental disorders in managed care. In addition to more than 60
articles in professional journals, Dr. Katzelnick is coauthor of
the Madison Institute of Medicine patient booklets: Posttraumatic
Stress Disorder: A Guide, Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder: A Guide,
Social Anxiety Disorder: A Guide and Oxcarbazepine and Bipolar
Disorder: A Guide. He has also given more than 400 lectures
on these and related topics.
Dr. Katzelnick received
his MD from the University of Colorado. He completed an internship
in internal medicine at St. Joseph's Hospital in Denver and a residency
in psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. From
1990 to 1992 he was Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University
of Wisconsin Medical School, where he directed the Center for Affective
Disorders inpatient unit. He is board certified in psychiatry. He
has led the Health and Research program since 1993.
