One in two people will be exposed to a life-threatening, traumatic event in their lifetime. While many people experience traumatic events, not everyone develops PTSD. Epidemiological studies indicate that about 10% of Americans have had or will have PTSD at some point in their lives, and that about 5% have PTSD at any given time. Women are twice as likely as men to develop PTSD.
