From time to time, people have been known to recover from PTSD without consulting a clinician, seemingly just "growing out of it." Why that happens is not exactly clear, but it may stem from the reaction of the individual or the nature of the trauma itself. Those who manage to process the trauma, to share it with others and release any associated guilt feelings may be more likely to move on without medical intervention. As for the trauma, things such as proximity to the trauma, severity, duration and danger level of the trauma as well as whether or not it was inflicted by another person may all affect the person's ability to recover.
